The Social Media Explosion!

social media

It’s the BOMB.COM!!! Literally, it is. It’s the newest innovation in communication technology. Social media allows users to connect with friends, family, businesses, politicians, celebrities, and whomever else we want to connect with. Various social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, MySpace, Linkedin, and many others, all help people to stay connected with people they choose to communicate with as well as get information and updates about certain businesses/organizations.

Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace allow users to keep in touch with their friends and family even if they’re thousands of miles away. Along with this, these sites allow users to follow their favorites sports team, celebrities, corporations, as well as politicians in order to remain up-to-date with information going on with the various entities they are following.

YouTube is a different kind of social networking site, but it basically offers the same communicative benefits as the ones previously listed. It allows users to completely communicate through videos and also by leaving comments on certain videos. This site allows people interested in certain channels to subscribe to those channels which display informative videos and/or videos on topics that interest them. Here is a very interesting YouTube video about social media!

Linkedin is another social networking site, but a little different from the others. Yes, it allows users to stay in contact with other users, but in a more professional manner. This site allows users to stay in contact with business professionals that they’ve encountered with throughout their educational and professional careers. It allows job seekers and employers to see an online resumé of various people who they’ve encountered and/or who they may work with in the future.

With all this said, there are so many sites to join in order to socially network. Over the years, the expansion of social media has drastically increased and so many people are joining the social media revolution. What started out as a fad has turned into a permanent transformation within the aspects of communication. And with the steady rise of social media continuing to increase, more and more people are deciding to join a network and/or participate in the developments of the revolution. The article The exploding PR frontier of social networking by Michael McCord discusses how social networking is massively changing the innovative ways people get their news and how social media is transforming the realm of PR.

Whether it be for professional reasons or casual conversation, there is a social networking site for everyone! 🙂

Simple as 1-2-3!

RSS or Really Simple Syndication is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works like blog entries, news headlines, audio and/or video in a standardized format. An RSS is a feed that allows users to subscribe to a given form of media and then have the media automatically updated within their feed.

I know it sounds really complicated, but trust me, I didn’t get it either until I watched this video. It helped me figure it out a little better, so hopefully it will help you too!

RSS is very beneficial to its subscribers by allowing their news to come to them instead of them having to spend time going to various websites. It allows you to receive updates as soon as there’s a new entry on the sites you enter into your feed. Along with RSS being a beneficial tool, it’s FREE!!! And in today’s economy, that’s a word we love to hear! No gimmicks or anything, completely FREE!!! I had to say it again just to make sure you believed me.

RSS is the new, faster, and more convenient way to get your news!

Hopefully, this post has helped you understand RSS a little better because it helped me understand RSS a lot more than I did before I did this post. So, get out there and create your RSS feeds so your news can come to you!

🙂

Tag! I’m it!

I’ve been hit by the blog phenomenon. Blogs are everywhere nowadays. They can range from an array of subjects. They can range anywhere from blogs about interesting animals to entertainment news, either way, they are all personal accounts of how the bloggers view the world. A blog can also be a very personal diary of the blogger’s daily accounts and emotions that they experience when faced with the encounters life throws our way. Since this is my first blog, I’m trying to learn and experiment as I go. Thus far, I’m enjoying writing about various topics as well as reading the blogs of others on various subjects.

I’m a lover of sports, all things news, music, and food. I have many interests, but these seem to be the major elements that I like to read about regularly. With the growing popularity of blogs, there are so many choices to select from when it comes to these different areas of interest. If I’m feeling like reading up on some of the current events in politics, business, crime, and/or health, I may choose to read AC360. But, if I’m feeling like diving into the entertainment news genre, then I go to Necole B which encompasses all things entertainment. Another huge interest of mine is music. To put it simply, I LOVE MUSIC, so if I feel the urge to get in the know about upcoming music or find out latest CD or song reviews, I may go to numerous blogs that include Kanye Universe City and The Smoking Section just to name a few. And last, but definitely not least, is my love for food. I love everything about food. I love to eat it of course, I love to find out about nutrition concerning food and our diets, yeah lame as it may sound, I find it very interesting, and I also love to cook and learn about cooking different meals. With all that said, when I feel my inner dietician or chef calling, I might satisfy those cravings by cooking and reading blogs such Test Kitchen and Eat, Drink, and Be.

Along with my many areas of interest, there are also many blogs geared toward educating in career paths that I may be interested in such as Public relations and/or journalism. These types of blogs provide insight and discussions about new and innovative ideas within a given field. Blogs such as Kevin Dugan and Poynter educate students as well as specialists that are interested in learning more about their career. These types of blogs offer guidance, advice, and instruction on certain aspects of a given career.

As I venture on this journey of beginning and improving my own blog, I will be thankful and excited if all of you would take this trip with me. And hopefully one day in the future my blog, if I continue to maintain it, will be just as established as the ones listed above! 🙂
